On the Mend

I meant to update before now, but figured the people who read the blog have either talked to me or are friends on Facebook.  Zach's surgery went well and he has been slowly, but surely, recovering.  He was gone from us for about 3.5 hours for his surgery and recovery time.  When they finally came to get us to see him at 4:30 p.m., it was all I could do not to sprint back to see him.  The Dr. had also said that he wanted to keep Zach overnight to make sure everything was okay, and so that he could check on him the next day.  Well, I guess the nurses told Zach that, and even though he was still coming out of his anesthesia, he firmly told them several times he wanted to go HOME.  After the Dr. checked him, he agreed that we could go home, which I know Zach was excited about!  We left the hospital around 6:00 p.m. and headed home.  We ordered pizza and just hung out and Zach slept!  A lot!  That night we didn't sleep great however, since we...

Proof....

That we did have some fun in the month of June!  These pictures are from in between our hospital visits and his surgery. My mom came over and helped me garden on June 8th.  We ate at Chick-fil-a, went to Jo-Anns, and to The Home Depot.  We got so much done and it looks so much better!  I was also so excited to use the blue spray paint I had gotten on clearance a while back.  It spruced up my planters perfectly! : ) Spot the Nellie!  She slept like this for a couple hours.  We couldn't get over how funny it was! This was Thursday (June 20th) the night before Zach's surgery.  He wanted a nice, big meal since he wouldn't be able to eat past midnight! Hanging around in a hammock at Lowes!  Also the night before surgery! More of the flowers I planted!  To the right of them is a huge root from bushes we had.  Any great tips on how to get rid of them. (Other than trying to pull them out! I've seen some products that you c...

Father's Day 2013

This Father's Day, we were able to see both of our Dads.  My Daddy was going down to his parents in the morning and would be back in the afternoon, so we went to church with Zach's parents and then out to O'Charley's for brunch with them.  I didn't have my camera, so no pics from that gathering! Then we took a glorious, wonderful, three (3!) hour nap before heading to Mama Joyce's to celebrate Father's Day with my Daddy.  Mama Joyce, Mama, Daddy, Ross, Zach, Suzanne, Eric (Suzanne's boyfriend), Fiona (Ross's Dog-daugther), and I were all there.  We had barbecue for supper and homemade apple pie for dessert!  Yumm!  Nellie with the Father's Day card she "made" with help from Mama!   She so wasn't sure about me placing the card on her.  I think she thought she was in trouble.  I made a card like we made with my kids in summer camp.  All the gray shapes were scratch-offs that told things that their Dad's did for them.  ...

Surgery time!

Tomorrow, well today (since I am up waaaay past midnight) is Zach's surgery to remove the tumor from under his arm. It's at 1:00, so if you think of us around that time, please say a prayer for him, the doctors, and all of us who will be waiting to see his handsome face when he is out of surgery.  We are trusting in The Lord that he's got this. This entire evening I've had the song "Surely the Presence of The Lord is in this Place" running through my head and I know for certain he was in every part of what we did at home tonight to prepare for tomorrow. He will also be with us in the hospital tomorrow.  I'm so happy to have a loving God who never leave nor forsake me. I will try to update once his surgery is over and we get home and settled in! Thank ya'll so much for thinking of us!

Craziest week of the year!

Well, our last week has been anything but boring!  On Monday, Zach called me at work and said he was throwing up.  He called the doctor and they wanted to admit him to the hospital since he also had a fever.  I made it through most of my work day and was at the hospital by 12:45.  About 45 minutes after I got there, they moved us into a room and we waited... and waited.  They wouldn't let him eat or drink until we saw the surgeon and he decided if he wanted to do surgery or not.  Poor hubby was hungry!  We hung out, had several visits with our awesome nurse and techs and even some visitors.  Zach's sister was there, his uncle came by, and so did our pastor.  About 6:00, the surgeon came by and examined Zach's arm, said he wasn't going to do surgery that night, but they were going to keep him to see if the throwing up and fever were related to his arm, or if he just happened to be sick at the same time as all of this.    I eve...

To the ER we go

*warning- this post will contain pics of bodily fluid, which you may or may not find disturbing... You've been warned! Alright... Let's start with A couple weeks ago.  Zach's arm that had a growth about 20 months ago (read about his surgery here) started to not look as flat as it had been after his surgery. It wasn't clear that it was hurting or growing though, so we were just kind of watching it. Fast forward to Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  His underarm was starting to pooch out some and he said it hurt a fair bit.  He continued to go to summer school class and work.  Then on Friday he didn't end up working for his dad. He was having to use a pillow in between his arm an body to be comfortable at all. He had spiked a fever of 101 something and was in such pain by Friday night, we were questioning going to the ER. We called our parents and my cousin, Nekayeh, who is a nurse practitioner. She said that we should draw a line around the growth, so we ...
