I was already on my way to pick up Nellie when the ladies called me and said she was doing just fine and ready to come home!
I walked in and she immediately went back to get Nellie. She came out and gingerly handed her to me. Her two incisions were scaring me because I didn't want to hold her in a way that would make me hurt her. Poor Nellie Girl's eyes looked so blood shot and worn out. They said she had been sleeping the day away.
I walked out the door with her and a combo of the anesthesia and the cold were making her poor little body shiver like crazy. I praised the Lord that I thought to bring a fuzzy blanket with us! When I got to the car though I remembered I now had to open the door. I cursed myself for locking it (habit) and reached for the handle, which by a miracle, I hadn't locked! I somehow shifted Nellie's weight just enough to wiggle out two fingers to pull the door open and then proceed to pull it out with my foot. Then there was the lovely wind that slammed it back into my back. Any-who, I'm not the little invalid. I got Nellie all snuggled up in the seat and she rode home in a semi-trance/sleep look. It was soooo pitiful, but at this point, I still don't think she knew anything that was going on.
We faced the other obstacle of actually getting in the house once we got home, but I was smarter from the 20 minute drive home and the time it gave me to plan. I unlocked the house door, left it wide open, propped the screen door open, and went back to fetch Nellie. Poor baby was still shivering so I double swaddled her and we cuddled on the couch until Zach got home at 5:30. She drank a little water from my fingers, but wasn't interested in eating.
I hate to see her in such pain, but at least now she won't have to go through the pain of having puppies, right? (Yes, I'm trying to make myself feel better for putting her through this!)
The worst was when I had to carry her outside to go potty. Poor thing needed to go #2 and it took her 5 times longer than normal because whenever she would push it would hurt her. I just wanted to be able to make it easier for her. Thankfully she was able to go and I scooped her back up and we went to bed.
Thank you to all of you who prayed for our Nellie girl! She is on the road to recovery and we now pray that she quickly returns to being our fast, energetic, sweet puppy!
