Vacation 2013- Days 1& 2

On Friday, I got off work around 12:30 (early! yay) and went home to finish packing.  Zach had done a great job of getting things ready, so we just finished packing up Nellie's things and headed to Zach's parents' house to drop her off! After a little bit of a drawn out goodbye (on my part), we were off!  We had to go through the bank and get lunch, but then we were officially on the road!  Woo hoo!  The drive went pretty well, and as usual it rained around Nashville.  We were making great time and finally stopped for the night in Gardendale, Alabama.  We ate at Cracker Barrel and had a good time shopping around.  We stayed at a Best Western and I decided it would be great to use their fitness room to squeeze in a workout.  I don't use the term "jank" a lot, but I believe their fitness center defined this word.  I was so excited to see an elliptical... until I got on it.  It could not even make a revolution around, it just squeaked and squawked.  Next up, the treadmill.  It worked adequately, except for the fact that the belt slipped ever little while, which would send Zach into a fit of laughter each time I grabbed the rails to keep from falling.  I know I was quite a sight!  Needless to say, my workout didn't last long, and it was a memorable experience.  Our hotel was wonderful though, and we had a king size bed!  Maybe that's not a luxury to some, but to us, it was amazing! (We have a queen, but started out on a full! From small beginnings.... : )

The next morning, we got up and ate the hotel's continental breakfast and got on the road around 8:30.  We made a stop along the way at Durbin's Farm Market in Clanton, Alabama to get ice cream and nectarines.  We always get their peaches too, but decided to get ours on the trip back home.  It is one of the staples of our trip!  Can't go without stopping there!

After several rain storms and doubting our GPS's (Affectionally referred to as Garmina on our travels), we finally arrived to our condo at 2:45 p.m.  Cue family time, baby time, and food time!  My three favorite things! : )   Saturday was also my brother's birthday, so we had lasagna and cake to celebrate.  When we go to the outlets on Thursday, he get's to pick out a present from us!  Lucky boy!

Family room re-do featuring.... my curtains! : )

For a while now, we've planned on finally finishing our family room.  That's right, it's kind of been unfinished for the entire time we've lived there.  It was painted and decorated, just no molding and the ceiling was hideous because we (and by we, I mean Zach) took down the drop ceiling the previous owners had put up.  So, anyway, I looked at curtains and didn't really find anything I liked, so I decided I was going to make my own.  Zach and I looked at Jo-Ann's a couple times and each time we looked I liked this fabric more and more.  It was the most expensive fabric I've ever bought, but in the end, it was sooooo worth it! (*Note- I bought the fabric in January before NSM! : )) Here we are at Mama Joyce's one day after church cutting the panels.  I think we were all nervous to cut it.  It was too costly to mess up! Fast forward a couple weeks because I didn't have time, was lazy, and also scared to sew on it, and I finally just delved in an...

What I'm Thankful For...

Hey y'all. It's just Nathana in this post. I figured since I've been alive 20 years, that equals 20 Thanksgivings, so I'm gonna have the 20 things I'm most Thankful for. Here goes nothing! : ) 1. The first thing of course I am thankful for is my salvation through Jesus Christ! Without him I have no hope to be anything! 2. My mom and dad, and the home they raised me in. I could not imagine any parents better than mine, and I'm proud to be their daughter. I'm also thankful they didn't give me away to a farm when I was difficult! 3. My brother and sister. No one else knows all of the trouble we've been in and fun we've had over the years and even though we don't always see eye to eye, I wouldn't trade them for any other siblings. 4. Zachary Scheller. God has blessed me with an even better future husband than I could have ever asked for. My love and respect for him grows each day, and I will be so thankful this June when I can ca...

No-spend February

I have always been a "saver" of money, practically since I started receiving it for birthdays and especially since earning it.  I nearly cried when I paid $211 dollars cash for my iPod nano when I was 16. True fact!  So a long time ago I heard of a "Dave Ramsey" type idea of a no-spend month where in your household you pay your bills and buy groceries, and no extras for one month.  Then see how much you save.  Before the new year Zach and I were thinking about plans for this next year and things we're planning on saving for, so this idea appealed to the both of us!  Next came the decision of what month to pick for our month.  We knew December was out, for obvious reasons and we felt we needed more time to prepare than January, so February it was... also, who else would admit we're smart for doing this during the shortest month of the year? ; )  Yes, we thought of that as well. We did decide our own guidelines that fit our family. 1. Pay our bills....
