Spring Break 2014

Over Winter  Spring Break, the temps were not awesome, but it was still a great week. On Mon & Tues, I babysat my same three kiddos that I always do!  We watched Frozen both days, sang all the songs from it, Mary Poppins, and The Sound of Music, made sugar cookies, perler beads, played, acted, colored, and made "projects" as Ben called them.  Let me tell ya, I have not seen a kid more obsessed with perler beads since my siblings and me!  He made 6 shapes on Tuesday.  I wish I had a pic, but he made 5 turtles that were each a member of their family and then a Kitty that he said was me!! : )  I love that child.  We had tons of fun, but I was definitely ready for bed those nights! Ha! I actually cooked on Monday night, but Tuesday night we went to Qdoba! On Wednesday, Nellie had her well check-up with the vet.  I had given her a bath the night before, which she naturally hated, and then took her to the vet, which makes her little self sweat ever since they had to give h

Weekend Wrap-Up: Cincinnati/Newport trip

Over the weekend, (March 14-16)  Zach and I took a little get-away trip to Cincinnati Ohio, but stayed on the Newport, Kentucky side.  We got up pretty early on Friday (I took the day off, yay!), finished packing, and took Nellie to her Nana and Poppy's, who kept her for us.  After that, we were off and excited to be going somewhere we've never been before!  3 hours later... We ate a "Big Boy" for the first time.  I would compare it to a "Steak n' Shake" because it has a waited dining room and a drive-thru.  It also happened to be 20 feet from our hotel, so we went over and checked in a little early since they had our room ready. Big Boy and myself!  I have no shame...There were people driving in the drive thru and everything! : ) It's funny how just driving can make you so tired, so we both laid down for a little while and decided to go to Bass Pro Shop and the mall before our 7:00 dinner reservation.  Cincinnati traffice was craaaaaazy, tho

Lent

I have never before given anything for Lent, (You know, being Southern Baptist and all) but his year I feel compelled to give up something that controls too much of my life so that I can focus on my relationship with God.  Not sure if that's exactly why others participate in lent, but this is my own take on it. (I only say that b/c I had friends participating when growing up b/c they "had to.")  I am going to give up desserts and my beloved sweet tea.  I told people at my school if I pray and talk to God when I am craving these things, I may just talk to him all day! Haha!  But seriously... So last night to celebrate Fat Tuesday, I went over to my friend Theresa's (who also is giving up sweets for Lent) and took a pan full of sopapilla.  Now we shared with her 3 kids and husband, but I'm pretty sure we were the ones who ate approximately 1/2 the pan.  It was the perfect farewell to sugary treats for 40 days. I came home and told Zach that he had to polish off

Weekend Wrap-Up

We started our weekend with Pizza on Friday night and movies we picked up from the library.  We watched Silver Linings Playbook and This Means War.  I really liked SLP, but Zach was not as impressed.  The other was just o.k.  We were up until about 1:00 a.m., which is practically unheard of for us anymore!  We got up at 8:00 on Saturday morning and went out to get Mickey D's!  I only eat McD's breakfast twice a year, and I have to say the McGriddles I enjoyed was worth every last calorie and gram of fat.  It was so disgustingly good!  : )  We made two trips to Harbor Freight to pick up tools for Zach.  I joked that he is my Mr. Couponer because he got 5 screwdrivers, 3 sockets, and a tape measurer for $4.  Their computers were down, so they gave up the tape measurer for free, but Zach had coupons for the rest.  We also went to Lowe's to get paint for our paintable wallpaper we were going to put up in our bathroom.  I eyeballed it and picked a bluish color. My Mom came ove

NSM Week 4

Suppers for the week Sunday- Leftovers from Olive Garden Monday- Sloppy Joe Tuesday-Lasagna Wednesday-Fajitas Thursday- Strengthening Families supper for me/ Leftovers for Zach Friday- Pizza Well, we not only survived NSM, I even kept up on blogging about it!  Now, we did change up the rules and spend a little, but over all, we did pretty well!  First of all, we didn't have to buy a truck like last year, and second of all, we didn't really "do" Valentine's day. Now, it would be all well and good to just say we did a good job, but I want to guesstimate (It's a word in my mind) how much we saved. The line-up: We usually go to Qdoba every Monday night, which is around $10.  (4 x's/month Usually at Target we pick out a movie, clothes, or junk food.  I'm going to est. about $30 each trip. (We got at least 7-9 x's/month) Zach usually buys something each time he works at Bucks and Jakes. About $20 on average. (2 x's/ month) Snacks afte
